Slavic culture is sometimes such a strange mixture of superstition, pagan beliefs and Christian beliefs, it's all there and co-exists. There is this bird - little owl - which sometimes comes on the roofs of abandoned houses and hunts in the night for pray (mostly little rodents). There is a superstition that its cry in the middle of the night is a bad omen and that she's a messenger from the underworld. Every time I would hear the little owl I could feel my blood turn cold in my veins. I was trying to convince myself I don't believe in it. When you don't believe in something its existence vanishes.
